MBBS in Malaysia Entry Requirements: Quick Eligibility Check

Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education sets the minimum entry rules for medicine, revised from 29 October 2024. Individual universities can, and often do, ask for more.

A-Level

BBB, ABC or AAC in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics. Monash asks for at least 2 As and a B.

Foundation in science

CGPA 3.0 with at least a C in each subject, studied for at least one year at the same institution.

HSC

Each university decides how it assesses Bangladeshi HSC results. Many HSC students start with a one-year Foundation in Science.

English

UCSI and Taylor's ask for IELTS 6.0. Monash sets its own English requirements.

Age

You must be at least 18 when the medical programme starts.

Tests and interviews

Monash requires an ISAT score of at least 159 and Multiple Mini Interviews. Universiti Malaya requires BMAT, UCAT, MCAT or GAMSAT, plus interviews.

Documents to Keep Ready Before You Apply

Having these ready before your first session saves weeks later.

  • Passport, valid for at least 18 months by the time you apply for your EMGS visa.
  • SSC and HSC certificates and marksheets, or your O and A-Level results.
  • English test result, such as IELTS.
  • Entrance test score, if your chosen university needs one (ISAT, BMAT, UCAT and others).
  • Passport photo with a white background.
  • Sponsor's bank statements, in case a university asks for proof of funds.
Tip

Make sure your name is spelled exactly the same on your passport, SSC and HSC certificates. Spelling differences are a common cause of delays later, at the visa stage.

When Should You Apply for MBBS in Malaysia?

Earlier than you think. Medicine has more steps than other degrees, and some of them happen months before the intake.

Entrance tests

Plan them first

  • Monash needs an ISAT score before its interviews
  • Universiti Malaya usually holds MBBS interviews in May and June
Applications

Watch the deadlines

  • UM's international deadline for the September intake is 17 June
  • UM says applications take 4–8 weeks to process
Visa

Leave time for EMGS

  • Allow two to three months from offer letter to arrival
  • An eVAL is valid for six months once issued

As a rule of thumb, get in touch at least six months before the intake you're aiming for. That leaves room for a test, an interview and the visa without rushing any of them.

Applying for MBBS in Malaysia: FAQs

How do I apply for MBBS in Malaysia from Bangladesh?

Check that your results meet the entry rules, shortlist medical schools by intake and five-year cost, then apply to each university with your passport, academic certificates and English score. Some schools also need an entrance test and an interview. Once you receive an offer, your EMGS Student Pass application starts, usually through the university, and you apply for a Single Entry Visa after your eVAL is issued.

Does uniThink charge a fee to help me apply for MBBS?

No. Counselling, university selection, application handling and visa guidance are free with uniThink. You pay the university and official charges yourself, such as application fees, tuition and EMGS visa fees. For example, Monash University Malaysia lists a RM100 application fee, and Universiti Malaya charges RM300 per international application. Ask us for the official fee list of any university you're considering.

Can I apply for MBBS in Malaysia with HSC?

Yes, but each university decides how it assesses Bangladeshi HSC results. Malaysian medical schools set their entry rules in A-Level or foundation terms, so many HSC students first complete a one-year Foundation in Science with a CGPA of 3.0. International students without SPM or O-Level can also submit a credential evaluation report confirming A-Level equivalency. Send us your results for a free check.

When is the MBBS intake in Malaysia?

It depends on the university. Monash University Malaysia's medicine intake is in February, UCSI's Doctor of Medicine starts in September, Taylor's runs April and September intakes, and Manipal's international MBBS takes students in March and October. Universiti Malaya's international undergraduate intakes are September and February, though medicine has its own interview timetable. Contact us at least six months before your target intake.

Do I need an entrance test or interview for MBBS in Malaysia?

Some universities require both. Monash University Malaysia asks for an ISAT score of at least 159 and Multiple Mini Interviews, held in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Melbourne. Universiti Malaya requires an entrance exam such as BMAT, UCAT, MCAT or GAMSAT, plus Multiple Mini Interviews, usually in May or June. Requirements differ by school, so check before you plan your timeline.

Can uniThink guarantee my MBBS admission or visa?

No, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Universities decide on admission, and the Immigration Department of Malaysia decides on visas. What we can do is match you to schools where your results are competitive, help you submit a complete and accurate application, and guide you through every EMGS step so avoidable mistakes don't hold you back.
